Eero Aarnio is the designer and innovator behind some of the most recognizable and beloved Finnish furniture pieces of the 20th century. He is also one of the most copied designers in the world, with his most iconic design, the Ball Chair, being his most imitated work.

Eero Aarnio Originals is the manufacturer and brand behind Aarnio’s original designs. The brief was to create a logo for the new company that serves as both the symbol for the global brand and a certificate of authenticity for its products. Therefore, the logo needed to be both easily recognizable and difficult to copy.

The legendary Ball Chair.

The target audience for the new logo includes both consumers who are familiar with Aarnio's works and those who are unfamiliar. For this reason, we kept the approach very straightforward: the designer's name was formed into the shape of Eero Aarnio's most iconic design, the Ball Chair, from 1963. When creating the logo, we aimed to highlight the round shapes and general playfulness that are characteristic elements of Aarnio’s design language, with its three-dimensionality providing originality and visual depth. As the logo also serves as a certificate of authenticity, it will be engraved onto all authentic Eero Aarnio Originals products.

Social media was also a crucial aspect of the design process: the logo was created with space restrictions in mind to ensure it works seamlessly across all brand channels.

“They created a logo that in the best possible way combines the image of a two- and three-dimensional surface, I congratulate them.”
